Quality Marble & Stone Restoration

You’ve finally arrived at the ultimate source for having your prestigious stone surfaces returned to their beautiful factory finish. The marble, onyx, or travertine will look better than it has in years, possibly better than when they were brand new. It is possible because the grout is sometimes not entirely removed during the installation. Unlike a glazed porcelain tile, the stone tile is porous and can be hard to clean.

We use exclusively diamond disks to refinish the stone. These days many stone companies use hybrid pads that are not resin, and although the job looks good at first – the result is not durable. We have hundreds of references throughout the coastal area of North Florida that would be glad to speak with you about the quality of our work.

Floor Restoration

Floor restoration for natural stone includes using abrasives to remove edges of the tiles that are uneven and need to be “flattened” to light restorations that include acid etches and light scratches. Restorations include achieving honed as well as polished finishes. These restoration require using diamond abrasives and polishing compounds.

Wall Refinishing

Shower walls and kitchen counter backsplashes can wear in a different way the floors are, backsplashes can accumulate oily residues, and shower walls can collect soap film accumulation, especially on the lower four rows of tiles. Mineral deposits have to be removed with a mineral deposit remover and then honed with abrasives. The shower walls are sensitive to the use of low pH cleaning chemicals. Even the mildest acids can leave etch marks. We are experts at refinishing these tiles. We do each one individually, and the result is always spectacular.

Countertop Refinishing

Countertop restoration has been our specialty for many years. We are the only company in town with planetary equipment to refinish stone and give it unmatched results. We have diamonds that allow us to refinish quartzite and granite. Although refinishing these materials is rare, it is sometimes necessary when the factory finish has eroded. We can bring your marble counter to a finish you won’t believe. Marble Shine is also the only source available for MORE anti etch sealers. MORE anti etch makes it a joy not to worry about an etch every time somebody gets close to your counters.

There are no shortcuts for us, and the benefit for you is a far better value because the finish will hold its restored shine far longer.

Flooring Services

Terrazzo Flooring

Are beautiful terrazzo floors hidden beneath the carpet, vinyl or parquet in your home? It’s common for homeowners in Jacksonville, Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach and Ponte Vedra to find beautiful terrazzo floors beneath the surface just waiting to be noticed and restored.

Well, you’ll be pleased to know that Marble Shine Jax has the skills and experience to restore any terrazzo flooring to its original shine and luster. After all, terrazzo stone floors are designed to be indestructible and last a lifetime!

Cleaning, Resurfacing & Polishing

Are your terrazzo floors dingy and dirty after years of use? Don’t try to handle the problem on your own. Marble Shine Jax will restore them to their natural beauty for you.

Terrazzo flooring is popular in homes near the beach thanks to their indestructible nature. When residents and guests track sand into the house, terrazzo flooring is built to stand the test of time. Pets love terrazzo because the refinished surfaces are cool and comfortable during the warm months.

How Do I Keep My Terrazzo Floors Clean?

To keep your terrazzo floors clean, use these simple steps:

  • Sweep the floor to remove sand, dirt, hair and debris. Use a dry mop if the floor is dusty
  • Mop the floor with water and let it sit for a few minutes to dissolve the dirt. Make sure the floor remains wet for the entire time so loose dirt doesn’t dry to the floor
  • Rinse the floor again with clean water and rinse the mop to remove dirty water. An additional rinse may be necessary to remove all dirt
  • When it’s dry, buff the floor to restore it to its original shine

Travertine

Travertine Floor & Tile Restoration

Travertine is one of the “softer” stone materials available. Because of its softness, it can be easily scratched and abraded by materials that are harder — such as dirt and debris tracked in from outside, unprotected furniture legs, metal and hard plastics. Like limestone and marble, it is also highly reactive to acids, even relatively mild ones such as orange juice.

Because of its susceptibility to damage, restoration services are crucial to maintaining the look and feel of your travertine surfaces. With proper upkeep and maintenance from professional travertine flooring experts, your travertine stone can last you lifetime.

Our Travertine Cleaning & Restoration & Refinishing Process

  • Grinding — we start by grinding the surface of the stone with a specialized diamond abrasive pad and water to wash away the particles in order to even out gouges in the travertine
  • Honing — honing is the second step of travertine restoration. This is done by smoothing the floor with industrial diamonds, which brings up more shine to your floors. The honing process also removes scratches and stains and will give your surfaces a more uniform appearance. Depending on the level of damage to your floors, this may be all that’s needed to get them back to looking new
  • Polishing — this polishing step will give a semi-shine or shining effect to your floors and tiles. Travertine polishing is done by another set of industrial diamonds — these are smaller graded than what we use for honing

Travertine Cleaning & Polishing Services

In some cases your travertine surfaces may not need a full refinishing or restoration service, and polishing may be just what you need to bring back the luster and shine to your travertine. In those cases we have the ability to provide the best travertine polishing services in the Jacksonville and Northeast Florida region.

The polishing process for travertine starts with an analysis of the stone at hand. The first thing we address is the degree of lippage in your stone installation. Lippage is the difference in tile height from tile edge to the edge of the adjacent tile. If lippage is within acceptable limits, we can polished your travertine with little or no difficulty. Unfortunately, on some installations the tiles look like a mini-skyline — like little buildings rising in different heights compared to each other. In these cases, if there is excessive lippage, your floors will have to be ground flat. Because of the holes in travertine tiles, the fill will be removed during the grinding process. Refinishing a travertine floor with excessive lippage is one of the most involved processes we do in the stone restoration field.

Travertine Polishing Without Grinding

Travertine polishing without grinding requires honing cuts to remove scratches and etching.

Our process uses high quality, industrial diamonds to get the polishing process just right. These industrial diamonds come in a variety of forms and they each have a particular — in the hands of a skilled craftsman can polish travertine to a like new “factory” finish.

Tile & Grout Services

It’s no secret that tile and grout is difficult to effectively clean and maintain. You’ll be pleased to know that tile cleaning is a procedure we are all too familiar with and have perfected over the years.

Our tile cleaning services include:

  • Tile preconditioned with the appropriate chemical that will remove the soil unique to the situation at hand. For example, a bathroom tile may need a low pH cleaner (an acid) to remove mineral deposits and a kitchen may need a high pH (alkaline) to remove oily residue. Occasionally the tiles need to be scrubbed with a floor machine to remove severe soiling from the face of the tiles
  • Applied chemicals need to be allowed to remain on the tile, without drying, until it has a chance to work
  • Following the above steps, we use hot water and suction to remove the chemical and remove the soil that is released due to the combination of the chemical and the heated water
  • This step is completed with a long handled extraction device connected to hoses that provide the heated water as well as suction to remove it. That tool should be followed with a smaller hand tool that is able to detail the edges of the tiles especially around kitchen cabinets where the larger machine is too tall to fit beneath them

Why Our Tile Cleaning Process is Different

Travertine polishing without grinding requires honing cuts to remove scratches and etching.

Our process uses high quality, industrial diamonds to get the polishing process just right. These industrial diamonds come in a variety of forms and they each have a particular — in the hands of a skilled craftsman can polish travertine to a like new “factory” finish.

  • Removal of construction residue and grout haze
  • Removal of improperly applied sealers
  • Removal and replacement of cracked and missing grout
  • Refinishing, including the use of diamond tooling to hone and restore natural stone tiles
  • Application of colored epoxy and mortar fill to cracks and holes in natural stone tiles
  • Removal of mineral deposits and soap film from shower enclosures. Also refinishing the vertical surface of such tile with diamond tooling to restore the tiles to a factory finish
  • In shower enclosures application the correct grout and caulk, where missing

Grout Sealing

Do you scrub your grout and shortly after it seems dirty and dingy again? Grout is made from materials that are very porous in nature. This attracts oil, grease and liquids causing discoloration over time. Grout sealing helps protect your grout and keep it clean by keeping dirt and stains out.

When you choose us for professional grout sealing and schedule an appointment, here’s what you can expect:

  • Professional and experienced technicians are sent to your home at a time that’s convenient for you
  • First, we’ll clean the grout by applying an alkaline-based cleaner with a special grout brush. This removes any loose dirt and debris from the surface
  • Using a special tool, we carefully apply grout sealer and make sure no sealer gets on the surface of the tile (to reduce tile staining)
  • A color sealant can then be applied to lighten, darken or change the color of your grout to give your room a fresh look and appearance (optional)

After your grout is cleaned and sealed, you’ll spend less time cleaning and scrubbing to keep your tile looking like new. Because grout sealing breaks down over time, we recommend professional grout cleaning and sealing as needed or every year for floors and walls without exposure to moisture. Areas with high moisture may need grout sealing more often.

Shower Repairs: Re-grouting and Caulking

Over time the caulk in the corners and bottom edges of your shower can become weak and loose. Caulk should be applied at installation at all 90-degree angles (corners and bottom edges). Sometimes tile installers may skip this step and use grout in the corners. Eventually, the grout will crack away from the corners. Missing grout and caulk allows water to get behind and under the tile leading to mold and possible damage to walls etc.

At Marble Shine Jax, we only use the Fein Multimaster tool with an oscillating diamond blade to remove as much of the existing grout as possible. This allows the new grout enough depth to adhere and stay intact for many years.

After removing the old grout and caulk, we grout and caulk the areas with the color of grout chosen by you.

We offer this service in addition to cleaning shower walls and floors.

About Marble Shine Jax

Hi there! Thank you for visiting our website at Marble Shine Jax.

Marble Shine Jax is the premier residential stone refinishing contractor in North Florida. Our work is done with care and concern for the details that insure our customers satisfaction. This is the real key for us. We strive to be the best company our customers have ever purchased a service from anywhere for any good or service. Our plan is to provide the best product at the lowest possible price that will last for years. By doing this we generate an overwhelming amount of referrals. Ask around about us. Or if you need referrals in your neighborhood we are glad to provide you with one.

The ingredients that set us apart:

  • Team members that are happy to be doing your work and show it by a consistent good attitude.
  • You will get the feeling we are never in a hurry but work steady to complete the project the proper way with no shortcuts.
  • We use only the finest, well-maintained equipment. We use Klindex exclusively.
  • We don't use shortcuts with supplies. Unless we are in a special circumstance where floor tiles have sever lippage or a chiseled edge we use resin diamonds exclusively to 800, 1800 or 3500. We usually start at 220 but sometimes we have to go lower. We polish the tiles using a powder polish and never use a liquid crystalizer to attain a polished finish. These chemical polishes wear off quickly and look artificial as well as being bad for the floor
  • Our services include refinishing of floors, counters and walls.
  • We cover all northeast Florida but most of our business is at the beaches. In these areas we can provide a reference that will speak with you on the phone within a ¼ of our house. In some neighborhoods we have references within a pitching wedge. Ask around about us at the fabricators, dealers and distributors of marble, granite, quartizite, travertine and quartz.
  • Our people are trained to refinish stone by the premier supplier and instructor in the US MB Stone. We frequently attend refinishing classes to learn about the best new epoxies, abrasives, coatings and polishing systems
  • We offer the MORE anti etch system a product that can make any calcite based stone impervious to low pH etching.
  • We have tools necessary to antique and leather finish stone floors and counters. We use a Klindex UFO. It is a large format counter top tool that can refinish stone counters to a better than original finish. We even have these capabilities for quartz and quartzite.
